While it may have taken Creekview some time to get going,
the Lady Grizzlies were in full throttle once they did, erasing
a two-goal deficit with five unanswered scores to cruise past
county-rival Woodstock, 5-2, Feb. 25 at Woodstock.
The girls came out and said the second half was going
to be their half, said Creekview coach Kerri Schmitt,
whose squad trailed 2-1 at intermission. They came out
on fire and you really cant ask for anything better
than that. Im very proud of what they did.
After the Lady Wolverines jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind
goals from sophomore Sydney McCarthy and freshman Arista Holt,
the Lady Grizzlies (1-0-1) finally got on the board in the
closing minutes of the first half.
Arthur & Artise Both
Score 2
Taking a pass from senior Eli Arthur, Creekview freshman
Lauren Artise took a shot on goal that was deflected by Woodstock
keeper Erin McGee. But quick to ball, Artise played the rebound
and found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1 with
1:07 left in the half.
To go into halftime down 2-1 instead of 2-0, it was
a huge difference in the game, Schmitt said. It
was a great thing for us to press and get that goal before
the half.
That boost, along with a change in formation, had the Lady
Grizzlies looking like a different team for the final 40 minutes,
as Eli Arthur scored on a throw-in from sophomore Jordan Arthur
just 23 seconds into the half, and Artise, freshman Cori Dulmage
and Eli Arthur each netted a goal over the final 23:23 of
play to lift Creekview to its first-ever county victory.
Junior Megan Crissy contributed an assist for the Lady Grizzlies,
while Woodstocks McCarthy complimented her unassisted
goal by assisting Holts score.
Creekview, who had its Feb. 27 date at Dawson County postponed
due to weather, was to host Class AAA No. 4 state-ranked North
Hall on Tuesday in their first Area 7AAA match of the season
and receives a visit from rival Sequoyah, Friday at 6 p.m.
The Lady Wolverines, meanwhile, closed out their week with
a 4-0 loss at Class AAAAA No. 7 state-ranked Lassiter on Feb.
28.
Woodstock (1-2) was to visit Allatoona on March 2, before
traveling to North Cobb tonight for a 5:30 contest and hosting
No. 2 state-ranked Harrison, Friday at 5:30 p.m.
